Adam Jacob Slavin, of Rome, the beloved son of Dr. Mark and Linda Slavin, has passed out of this life at age 37, succumbing to the ravages of mental illness and addiction. His brave struggles against his inner demons will forever be an inspiration to those who loved him so dearly. Adam was a sensitive, kind hearted and loving man. His insight, intelligence, wit and humor, as well as his highly evolved culinary skills will be terribly missed by all who knew him. Adam had received a BS degree (and nearly a Masters) in clinical psychology. At the time of his death, he was employed at Worthington Industries. Adam's favorite place on this earth was the Fulton Chain of Lakes. The incredible beauty of the Adirondacks will always be a source of comfort for the loved ones Adam has left behind. Surviving Adam are his mother and father, Linda and Mark Slavin; his brothers, Zachary and Reid; his maternal grandmother, Estelle Hollaender; several aunts and uncles; Lisa Hollaender, Natalie Hollaender, Morton Hollaender (and Patti), Suzanne Tucci (and Gerard), and Dianne Slavin (and Russ Koutrouby); and many cousins. His funeral will be Sunday, September 12 at 1 pm at Temple Emanu-El, 2710 Genesee Street, Utica with Rabbi Peter Schaktman officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Emanu-El Cemetery, New Hartford. A period of visitation will be held from 12:15 - 1 pm, prior to the service at Temple. Shiva will be observed at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Slavin, 8496 Keeler Road, Rome on Sunday from 7-9 pm and Monday from 1-5 and 7-9 pm. The Temple asks that those attending in person be vaccinated, wear face masks and practice social distancing, as they are operating at a limited capacity.
