Mrs. Barbara (Maher) Kokesch, 78,of New York Mills, entered eternal life on Monday, May 14, 2012, at the Presbyterian Home. She was born in Providence, Rhode Island, the daughter of the late Charles and Catherine Maroney Maher. She moved to the Utica area with her family when she was three months old. She was a 1951 graduate of T.R. Proctor High School and worked for many years as a clerk in the trust department at Oneida National Bank. On November 29, 1968, Barbara married David Kokesch in Forestport, New York, a blessed union of 21 years, until his passing in 1989. Barbara was a fiercely independent woman who was very loving and loyal to her family and friends. She loved long walks, spending time with friends, and was an avid bowler. She will be deeply missed. Barbara is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Dolores Maher, Lincoln, CA; a special friend, Karleen Markowicz, New Hartford; and several nieces and nephews, Michael and Kim Maher, Kim Maher, William and Pa Maher, Joyce and Joseph Nicotera, and Thomas Maher, Jr. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Thomas Maher. Per Barbara's request, all services are private. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Rd., Utica/New Hartford.
