Bernard "Bernie" Birch, at 74 years of age, peacefully entered eternal rest on Monday, October 9, 2023, at the Sitrin Health Care Center.

Bernard was born on February 5, 1949. He resided with a home affiliated with the Central New York Developmental Disabilities Services Office. Bernard was welcomed to the Gan Kavod family on February 27, 2015. He then moved into the Hickory home of the Sitrin Health Care Center on February 28, 2020, until his passing.

Bernard participated in the Special Olympics and was proud of his ribbons and trophies in bowling and bocce. Bernard enjoyed summer vacations at the Lake Delta Bible Camp. He attended the ARC Choices Program and Gore Road Day Habilitation.

Bernard always greeted each person that crossed his path with a smile and made them feel important. He had a great sense of humor. It brought Bernard joy to bring joy to others. He has created connections with both staff and residents and will forever be remembered by each one of us. Thank you to all the nurses and caregivers of the Sitrin Health Care Center.

Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 pm at Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica, with Rev. Thomas Servatius officiating.   Arrangements are with Mark C. Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., New Hartford.
