Colleen Hyer, of Utica, at 61 years of age, entered eternal rest on Sunday, May 17, 2020, at her home surrounded by friends in her final hours. Colleen Loftus was born in Peekskill, NY on October 28, 1958 to Jean Martin and Richard Loftus and has two other siblings. Colleen married Raymond Hyer and together they had a daughter, Samantha and son, Anthony. On September 22, 2004, she was admitted into the Broome Developmental Center and was diagnosed with Huntington's Chorea in 2013. Colleen was welcomed to the Gan Kavod family on February 3, 2012 where she remained until her passing. Colleen communicated with staff through eye contact, truly giving meaning to the eyes being windows into the soul. Her eyes told a story of a brave women who courageously battled Huntington's Disease and found peace after many years of struggle. Colleen loved spending time in her bedroom watching Hallmark movies, listening to audio books and being read to, going for walks in the neighborhood, and spending time outside on sunny days. Private graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, May 21, 2020, at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Utica, NY, where she will be laid to rest. Arrangements are with Mark C.
