Obituary

Hon. Donald J. Cossette, 78, former Mayor and Trustee for the Village of Oriskany Falls, passed away Monday, April 11, 2011 at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton. He was born February 18, 1933, in Utica, a son of the late Wilfrid and Anna Mae French Cossette. He was a graduate of Oriskany Falls Union Free School and attended Morrisville State College. On August 18, 1962, at St. Joseph''''s Church, Oriskany Falls, he married Mary Ellen (Kathleen) Clair. For many years, Mr. Cossette was the Parts Manager for Dey Chevrolet in Clinton. Honorable Cossette was an active member of his community, where he served as a former Trustee and Mayor for the Village of Oriskany Falls. He was also an active member, current President, Past President and a Paul Harris Fellow of the Oriskany Falls Rotary Club, Past District Foundation Chairman of District 7150 of Rotary International, as well as a lifetime member, Past President and Past Commissioner of the Oriskany Falls Fire Department. He was an avid gardener. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathleen; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bernard and Judy Cossette of Madison and Brian and Sharon Cossette of Waterville; ten grandchildren, Sheila Misiaszek, Alyssa Hoke, Angela Dawes, Zachary Cossette, Kayley Cossette, Mary Cossette, Amanda Cossette, Adam Cossette, Diane Farina and Jeremy Godfrey; a great grandchild, Carly Dawes; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Amy Cossette of Verona and James and Madeline Cossette of Hamilton; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Rosie Clair and Edward and Millie Clair, all of Oriskany Falls; a close family friend, Carol Jordan of Oriskany Falls; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a great grandchild, Nicholas Dawes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 am at St. Joseph''''s Church, Oriskany Falls. Interment will be in St. Joseph''''s Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 at the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville.
