Donald Mitkoff, of Utica and West Palm Beach, FL, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2015 at his home in Utica. He was born May 7, 1930, in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Nathan and Betty Felsenfeld Mitkoff. He received his education in the Bronx and was a graduate of the RCA Institute in New York City and Utica College of Syracuse University. Mr. Mitkoff was a sergeant with the United States Air Force during the Korean War. In 1956, he came to Utica and married Esther Doris Silverman on June 27, 1959. For 43 years, Mr. Mitkoff was a reliability engineering specialist at General Electric Company in Utica, retiring in 1990. Mr. Mitkoff was a member of Temple Emanu-El, the Board of Directors of the Jewish Community Center, General Electric Quarter Century Club and was twice inducted into the General Electric Hall of Fame, the Utica Senior Day Center and the American Association of Retired Persons. He was also a former member of the House of Jacob and its Board of Directors. He is survived by his wife, Esther; a daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Charles August of Latham; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dr. Murray Mitkoff of Albany and Dr.Nathan and Melissa Mitkoff of Schenectady; grandchildren, Allison and Joshua August and Jacob, Benjamin and David Mitkoff; a sister, Anita Gerowity of New York City; in-laws, Charles and Janet Silverman of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Michael and Lois Silverman of New Hartford and Joan and Joel Seif of New Hartford; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Helene Shapiro from Phoenix, AZ; and a brother-in-law, Theodore Silverman from New Hartford. The funeral will be Sunday at 10 am at Temple Emanu-El, 2710 Genesee Street, Utica with Rabbi Cassi Kail officiating. Interment will be in House of Jacob Cemetery, Whitesboro. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday after the funeral until 5 pm at their home, 160 Ridge Road, Utica. Arrangements are with the Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., New Hartford.
