Obituary

Douglas M. "Pops" Lloyd, 78, of Utica, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, with his family by his side. He was born January 7, 1933, in New Berlin, the son of the late Merritt and Lena Rolands Lloyd and was educated in New Berlin schools. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. On June 30, 1956, in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica, he married Marie Reilly. Mr. Lloyd was employed by Utica Products and retired from PJ Green, Inc. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and was a member of Utica Lodge #33 B.P.O.E., American Legion Post #1113, VFW Post #7393, the NY State Showman's Association and was a past Scout Master of Troop #41. Pops enjoyed working at the Utica Memorial Auditorium concession stand and Central NY carnivals and was an avid "hunter". He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Marie; four children and their spouses, Jeff and Mary Lloyd of Utica, Tom and Terry Lloyd of Utica, David and Sue Lloyd of New Hartford and Kathy Lloyd of Utica; a sister, Peg Camenga of Leesburg, FL; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Al and Kathy Lloyd and Ron and Grace Lloyd, all of New Berlin; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Katie, Brian, Becca, David, Jaclyn and John; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Pam; and a brother, Jesse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Calling hours are Friday (tonight) from 4-7 at the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Rd., Utica/New Hartford. Members of the Elks will meet at the funeral home tonight at 6 o'clock.
