Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Lesa Larkin Lopesz, 84, of Waterville, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the Harding Nursing Home, with her loving family at her side. She was born March 10, 1924, on her parents, LeRoy and Lesa Hodges Larkin's farm in Hubbardsville. Elizabeth was the salutatorian of the Brookfield Central School, class of 1943 and attended Morrisville College for two years, majoring in Dietetics and Home Economics. After graduaton, she worked as a head cook at summer camps and later as the cafateria manager at Waterville Central School. In 1954, Elizabeth married Norman J. Lopesz and ran a restaurant at Cherry Valley Oil, while Norm ran a gas station on Route 20 in Sangerfield. She later became a full time housewife and devoted mother, raising their three children, Catherine Lesa Lopesz, Roger Norman Lopesz and Douglas Lynn Lopesz as well as caring for her father-in-law, Nicolaus (Michael) Lopesz on their farm on Route 20 in Sangerfield. She was active in church and senior citizen programs. She also founded the Morlope 4H Club and for 10 years was the leader, which taught many kids activities in life, sewing, cooking, horse care and more. Betty did her own canning, gardening, freezing, quilting, etc. She was affliated with the First United Methodist Church in Waterville, since Rev. Hotten was pastor and was formerly a member of the South Hamilton Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Norm; two brothers, Donald Lee Larkin of Hubbardsville and Harry R. Larkin of West Edmeston; a sister, Doris Maie Larkin Edwards of Crossville, TN; all her children; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Paul L. and Collin D. Larkin. The funeral will be Friday morning at 10 at the First United Methodist Church, Waterville, with Pastor Genett Timlin officiating. Interment will be in Sangerfield Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday evening from 4-7 at the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville.
