Obituary

Eloise J. (Stergas) Leaman, 79, of Bridgeport, NY and Orange City, FL, formerly of Stockwell, NY, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2008 in Florida. She was born January 1, 1929 the daughter of the late Edgar and Zada Truman Baulch. She was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. On September 1, 1946, in St. Mary's Church, Cooperstown, she married Laurence C. Stergas. He passed away November 9, 1989. On May 17, 1991, in St. Bernard's Church, Waterville, she married William C. Leaman. For many years, Mrs. Leaman was employed as a Microelectronics Technician with General Electric in Utica, retiring in 1983. She was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Bridgeport as well as a long time parishioner of St. Mary's Church in North Brookfield and St. Bernard's Church in Waterville. She was a member of the Country Village Red Hat Society in Orange City, FL. Eloise was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was born the year of the Great Depression and lived life with a great respect for God and a tremendous sense of family. She will be greatly missed by those who had the fortune to meet her. She is survived by her husband, Bill; a daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Bruce McMullen of Waterville; a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Kathy Stergas of Fletcher, VT; four grandchildren, Geoff McMullen and his wife, Ann of Rome, Zach McMullen of Nantucket, MA and Sean and Julia Stergas of Fletcher, VT; Bill's family, Gary Leaman and his partner, Sandy of Bridgeport, Barbara Block of Bridgeport and Ruth Dibble of Chittenango; and a special nephew, Richard Baulch of Burlington Flats, as well as many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ward and Lysle Baulch and her sister-in-law Sarah, who was like a second mother to her. She also leaves many special friends in Country Village, Orange City with whom she and Laurence and then William had met over 25 years. She and her friends enjoyed entertaining, bowling, playing cards, golfing, Bocce, and talking about children and grandchildren. Eloise held a special place in her heart for close friends, Phil and Vera Barnes of Stockwell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 am at St. Bernard's Church, Waterville. Interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 pm at the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville.
