Erla R. Zimmerman, 73, of Frankfort, passed away Saturday June 19, 2010 at the Faxton-St. Luke''s Healthcare Center. She was born January 29, 1937, in Utica, the daughter of the late Earl G. Wengert and Lillian Smith Wengert Gimelli. Erla was a graduate of UFA, class of 1955, where she was voted class wit, for laughter, smiles, cheer and encouragement always surrounded her. At one time, Mrs. Zimmerman was employed with I.C.L. She was later employed as the Publication Editor for General Electric and retired from human resources at Strandflex. Mrs. Zimmerman also enjoyed working part-time and volunteering at the Stanley Performing Arts Center. She was a life time member of Immanuel Baptist Church and was a member of the Valley Voices for Christ Choir, the Etude Club and the B-Sharp Club. Erla was blessed with a beautiful voice and sang her way through life. Her love and dedication to music availed her to many stages, although her calling was to sing for her Heavenly Father. She was a wise and wonderful mother and "grammy" and always enjoyed figuring out the OD''s daily crossword puzzle, another true passion of hers. She is survived by four children and their spouses, Kathleen and Daniel Williams of Herkimer, Frederick and Renee Zimmerman of KS, Jon Zimmerman of CA and David Zimmerman of Frankfort; one sister, Judith Springer of TX; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Earl, Jr. and Maryrose Wengert of Sauquoit, Gerald Wengert of FL and Bruce and Betsy Wengert of FL; her former husband, Paul Zimmerman of TX; six grandchildren, Lilly May and her husband, Nathan Corathers, Leta, Liam and Lyla Williams, Alexandra Zimmerman and Katy Zimmerman; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life memorial service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 4 o''clock at Immanuel Baptist Church, Weston Rd., New Hartford. A reception will follow the service in the church hall. If you are unable to attend the service, you are still cordially invited to attend the reception. There are no calling hours.
