Obituary

Mrs. Fannie Ciaiola, of Utica, entered into eternal life on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at The Pines at Utica. She was born in Italy, the daughter of the late Stefano and Lucia Stasolla Montanarelli and at the age of 14, along with her family came to the United States, settling in Utica. In 1935, she married Frank Monopoli. He passed away in 1937. She later married George J. Ciaiola on June 29, 1940 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Utica. He passed away on March 10, 2001. For many years, Mrs. Ciaiola worked at Sperry-Rand-Univac, prior to her retirement. She was a parishioner of Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica and was a former active member of the East Utica Senior Citizen Center. She is survived by her son-in-law, James Giglio of North Utica; five grandchildren and their spouses, Kelley and Kent McLaughlin of TN, Michael and Laurie Monopoli of Poland, Bridget and Jim Everett of TN, Kyle Giglio and Lauren Fisher of New Hartford and Christopher and Charlene Giglio of MD; seven great grandchildren; her in-laws, Mike and Bonnie Ciaiola of Utica, Larry and Lucy Cali of MA, and Anne Licari of VA; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Angelo Monopoli in 1999; her daughter, Marie Giglio in 2007; three brothers; and three sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 am at Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica. There are no calling hours, however the family will greet visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family wishes to acknowledge her neighbors who looked after her, Robert Lalli and Alex Almas. Arrangements are under the guidance of the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., Utica/New Hartford.
