Gerald Berg, Ph.D, of Brighton, NY, passed away December 12, 2016 at age 88. Predeceased by his parents, Lily and Abe Berg; his sisters-in-law, Gloria Berg and Alice (Cissie) Yablin; his brother-in-law, Sanford Jacobson; and his nephew Michael Jacobson. Survived by his beloved wife, Lila; his children, Robin (Gregg Tabakin), Michel (Sarah Nemetz) and Stacie (Erwin Rydell); brother, Melvin Berg; brother-in-law, Wayne (Gloria) Jacobson;, sister-in-law, Rosalind Jacobson; grandchildren, Erica Tabakin (Alex Rozenberg), Alexandra Tabakin, Benjamin Berg, Matthew Berg and Jonathan Rydell and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. As a scientist and environmentalist, Dr. Berg worked tirelessly along with many other caring, dedicated, devoted and hard working colleagues, first at the Public Health Service and then through the majority of his career at the US Environmental Protection Agency and as Adjunct Professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Engineering, ensuring that our water supply was safe and free of harmful infectious organisms and that our earth remains habitable for all future generations. Funeral services will be at the Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford NY 13502 on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 2 pm followed by interment in House of Jacob Cemetery, Whitesboro, NY. The family will receive friends on Thursday December 15 from 7-9 p.m. at 2000 Summit Circle Drive in Brighton, NY. Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice in Gerald's memory. Gerald's family would like to thank everyone at The Jewish Home in Brighton, Strong Memorial Hospital and Highland Hospital and all of his health care providers for taking such good care of him during his final years.
