Gerald J. "Jerry" Casey, 89, of Zephyrhills, FL, formerly of Utica, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2014, under the care of the Gulfside Center for Hospice Care, with his daughter and son-in-law by his side. He was born November 17, 1925, in Utica, the son of the late Bertrum Thomas and Anna Prendergast Casey and attended St. Francis deSales High School. He was a US Navy veteran of WW II. On April 3, 1948, at Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica, he married Jeanette C. "Jean" Barnhart. She passed away August 8, 2010. At one time, Mr. Casey owned his own service station and later made a longtime career in the automotive business, retiring in 1988. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Jerry is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Agostino Aiello of Utica; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Barbara Casey of Utica; three grandchildren, Augie and his wife Lisa Aiello of AZ, Jerry Aiello of Utica and Sal Aiello and his fiancé Nickki Lewis-Parker of FL; three great grandchildren, Jacob, Noah and Ava Aiello of AZ; two brothers, Austin "Toots" Casey of Utica and James Casey of Ilion; and several nieces and nephews, especially Linda and her husband Paul Scata of FL; He was predeceased by twelve brothers and sisters. The funeral will be Saturday at 9:15 am from the Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Road, Utica/New Hartford and 10 am from Our Lady of Lourdes Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment with Navy Honors will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 pm.
