Gertrude C. Abraham, 84, of Utica, passed away Friday January 25, 2013 at the Presbyterian Home for Central NY, with her family by her side.She was born July 11, 1928, in Utica, the daughter of the late Frank and Eva Christ Tubbs and was a graduate of UFA, Class of 1946. On June 12, 1948, at St. Louis Gonzaga Church, Utica, she married John J. Abraham, Sr., a loving union of almost 60 years. He passed away May 7, 2008. Gertrude cherished the time spent with family, and her children and grandchildren will carry many happy memories of kibbee dinners, trips to Cape Vincent, and the countless birthday and holiday get-togethers that were shared over the years. She also enjoyed her weekly card games with her husband, John, and her siblings and in-laws. Admittedly, Gertrude had a bit of a competitive streak in her, and she never passed up an opportunity to beat someone at checkers. More than anything, Gertrude was someone who put her family first. Even though she could be a woman of few words, the weight of those words was never lost on those she loved. Her family will miss her, but those she left behind are comforted knowing that their Sitto has found the peace she deserves. She is survived by three children, Christine Linck of New Hartford, David Abraham of Utica and John, Jr. and Shelley Abraham (who because of her extra love and affection towards Gertrude was thought of as a daughter) of Whitesboro; six grandchildren, Jason Linck, Nathan and Sarah Linck and Lindsey, Chelsea, John III and Joey Abraham; and several nieces and nephews, especially Joseph Abraham of New York City. She was predeceased by two sisters, Doris Joseph and Arlene Acey; and two brothers, Rev. Donald Tubbs and Raymond Tubbs. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Monday at 7 pm at the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Road, Utica/New Hartford, with The Rev. Laurie Percival-Pauley officiating. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Gilda Donatelli, for the comfort she gave our mother during her last days and also to the entire staff of the Willow Unit at the Presbyterian Home for Central NY, for their wonderful care and compassion.
