Gertrude E. (Trudy) Schreck, 90, of Clinton, passed away Wednesday January 26, 2011 at the Presbyterian Home for Central NY. She was born June 12, 1920, in Utica, the daughter of the late Jerome and Mary McNally Schreck and was educated in local schools. Trudy worked at the Rome State School prior to enlisting in the WAC's in 1943. She served in the United States and the South Pacific, was the recipient of the Bronze Star and was honorably discharged in 1946 at the rank of Sergeant. In 1977, she retired from the Utica State Hospital. Miss Schreck was a member of the New Hartford American Legion Post #1376 and the Malsan-Jones VFW Post #7393. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Victoria Schreck of Marcy; a special friend whom she resided with for 58 years, Theresa Young of Clinton; and another dear friend, Karen Costello of New Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church, North Utica at the convenience of her family and friends. Per her request, there are no calling hours. Spring interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Her family and friends wish to thank the entire staff of the Presbyterian Home for Central NY for their many acts of kindness and compassion.
