Obituary

Gilbert O. (Skeet, Skeeter) Welch, Jr., 61, of Waterville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 30, 2010, from injuries sustained in an accident. He was born July 23, 1949, in Herkimer, the son of the late Gilbert and G. Ellen Burke Welch and was educated in Clinton schools. Skeet was a Vietnam veteran from 1969-1974, serving with the US Army and the US National Guard. On September 19, 1971, at the First United Methodist Church of Waterville, he married Donna E. Kelsey. For many years, Skeet was a truck driver with Wehrle Sanitation, WSI Sanitation and currently with Spohn's Disposal. Skeeter was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. His life centered around his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he loved to watch and support at all their sporting events. Skeet also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was well known for his sense of humor and ability to make people laugh. He is survived by his wife, Donna; two sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher and Rebecca Welch of Waterville and John and Tami Welch of Clayville; seven brothers and sisters and their spouses, Georgia and Howard Callahan of Clinton, Edmund and Becky Welch of Tore, NM, Virginia (Chic) and John Ingro of Cooksville, TN, Bill and Mary Jo Welch of Waterville, Jim and Cathy Welch of Stuyvesant, Bob and Kathy Welch of Deansboro, and Barb Tucker of Colorado Springs, CO; five granddaughters, Cheri, Shian, Adriona, Jennifer and Alexis; two special "granddaughters" Christy and Bethany; his step father, Ernest Darrow, Sr. of Deansboro; his in-laws, Diane and Stewart Lyman of Waterville and Edward and Soccora Kelsey of Wichita, KS; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas. The funeral will be Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville, with Pastor Ed Townsend officiating. Spring interment will be in Sangerfield Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 11 - 2, prior to the service.
