Obituary

Govoneur S. (Gov) Slover, 82, of Sunyside Dr., passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, with his family by his side, after a brief illness. He was born December 31, 1925, in Canastota, the son of the late George and Gertrude Webb Slover and was educated in Canastota schools. Mr. Slover was a Cpl. with the US Marines during WW II. In 1951, in Utica, he married Maryrose Benzo. Mr. Slover was a welder with Pettibone in Rome, retiring in 1980. Prior to that he worked with Chicago Pneumatic in Utica. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Gov was a devoted family man who adored his grandchildren dearly and was an avid bowler. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maryrose; four children, Thomas G. Slover of Utica, Ron Slover of Utica, Gerard and Michelle Slover of MA and Lucymarie and Christopher Sturtevant of SC; two sisters, Gertrude Smith of Canastota and Lenora Arnold of CA; one brother, Floyd and Donna Slover of Vienna; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Friday at 9:15 am from the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Rd., Utica/New Hartford and 10 am from Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of St. Elizabeth Medical Center ICU and Dr. Dilip Kachare for all their wonderful care and compassion.
