Harvey W. Brockley, 78, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He was born April 9, 1930, in Utica, the son of the late John Paul Brockley and Dorothy Wicks. He was a graduate of Sauquoit Central School, Buffalo State University and received his Master's degree from Syracuse University. On December 26, 1953, in Warners, he married Phyllis Bragan. Mr. Brockley was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. For 35 years, Mr. Brockley was an art teacher with the West Irondequoit School System. After his retirement in 1986, the Brockley's relocated back to Utica. He was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church and Habitat for Humanity. Harvey was a well respected artist, was an avid bicyclist and cross country skier, enjoyed kayaking and loved nature and the outdoors. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis; four children, Janice Hill of Saratoga Springs, Joanne Titzer-Brockley of Brooklyn, Mark Brockley of Forest Knolls, CA and Jean B. Decker of Kinderhook; his mother-in-law, Ruth Bragan of Marathon, FL; his sister-in-law, Beverly Arthur of Paris Hill; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Jack Brockley. Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial service on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 10 Higby Rd, Utica, with Pastor David Blanchard officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Paris Hill at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, Waterville.
