Jane E. Steppello, 93, of Remsen, formerly of the Utica area, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014 at her home, with her family by her side. She was born September 2, 1920, in Utica, the daughter of the late Harold and Dolly Dowd Brown and was educated in Clinton schools. She was married to Joseph F. Steppello, who passed away in 1962. At one time she worked at Sturges Manufacturing in Utica, retiring in 1985. Jane was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother and loved to sew and make crafts. She was noted for her beautiful smile. She is survived by six children and their spouses, JoAnn Steppello-Jones and Fred of Union Springs, Mary Cardillo of New York Mills, Ralph Steppello and Paige of Deltona, FL, Terry Taylor of Remsen, Patricia Horn and James of Utica and Joseph Steppello and Judy of DeLand, FL; several grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Jane was predeceased by her daughter, Cornelia; son-in-law, Ray; and brother, James. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 am at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church, Utica. Private interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Utica. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. By family request, please omit flowers.
