Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Jessica L. Many who left us on May 23, 2024 at the age of 85 after a multi-year battle with Alzheimer's. Full of love, laughter, and resilience, she touched the lives of all who knew her. To commemorate her journey and to celebrate the love she spread, a Graveside service will be held in her honor at the Tifereth Zvi cemetery, Wood Road in Whitesboro, NY on Tuesday, May 28th at 1:30 pm. Additionally there will be a Shiva minyan at congregation Agudat Achim in Schenectady at 7 pm on Wednesday evening.  We invite all who knew her to join us in remembering a remarkable woman.

Jessica was born in Utica on May 20th, 1939 to Abraham and Goldie Myers. The eldest of three children, along with her bothers Sam and Marty Myers.  She grew up in Saratoga Springs, NY and earned her teaching degree at SUNY Plattsburg.  Jessica was married to Frank Many and became a loving stepmother to his six children, Marie, Teresa, Mark, Cecile, Paul and Matt and was overjoyed seeing them grow up and become parents and grandparents of their own. Jessica and Frank had one son, Alex Many, who with his wife Rebecca Pear have a son Grant Many.

Jessica loved children and was a dedicated elementary education teacher with over 35 years spent teaching, with the majority of her career in the Schenectady School system at Zoller Elementary.  She continued to keep tabs on her past students' lives long after their paths had crossed and enjoyed seeing the achievements of those who she influenced in their formative years.

Jessica was an active and vibrant participant in the capital district Jewish community. Obtaining her adult bat mitzvah, judging essay competitions, driving for Reyut, and supporting holiday programs at the B'nai B'rith housing are some examples of the many activities she participated in, supporting the community.  She was the recipient of several awards recognizing her commitment and generous support. She attended both Temple Beth Israel and Congregation Agudat Achim for many years and built lasting friendships among both congregations.  Jessica was also very involved in supporting Israel and was an active participant in the SarEl volunteers for Israel program, traveling there many times.

Jessica loved people and was always eager to chat with anyone with whom she crossed paths.  She cared deeply about and was fiercely loyal towards her family and friends.  She would speak with love and pride to those around about the accomplishments and adventures of her children, grandchildren, and now great grandchildren. She was loved by the community and her family. Jessica will be deeply missed.

Donations in her honor can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.

Arrangements are with the Mark C. Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., New Hartford, NY.
