JoAnne Ellen Mintel, 77, of Deerfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. JoAnne was born on August, 9, 1943, in Utica, the daughter of Carlton and Helen (Bergin) Smith, and graduated from UFA. She married Richard A. Rapavi on April 30, 1966 and they had a daughter, Nicolé Elizabeth. On February 27, 1975 she married Walter K. Mintel, Jr. They were married for 38 years until his passing in 2013. JoAnne joined Utica National Insurance Group directly out of high school and worked there for 47 years until retiring to care for her husband. Surviving are her daughter, Nicolé (Todd) Spalding of Boston, MA; her four step children, Walter III (Stephanie) Mintel of Port Charlotte, FL, Jodel Mintel of Astoria, Guy Mintel of Madison, and Michelle (Alan) Visitacion of Edgewater Park, NJ; and her grandchildren, Marné Law, Sophia Spalding, Frank Eckrich, April Staelens, Heather and Sharon Mintel, and Rachel and Matt Visitacion. She also leaves behind her beloved "sister" and her husband, Nannette and Bill Britt. Friends were a vital part of JoAnne's life. She leaves behind several dear friends including: Joanie Miller, Deborah Heitz, The Mack family, Mary Brumbaugh, Lois Bormann, and many more.
