Obituary

John L. Tormey, 89, of Tormey Rd., Sauquoit, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton. During his final days, he was surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 3, 1919, at the family homestead on Tormey Road, the son of the late Patrick and Catherine Hand Tormey and was educated at the Doolittle School. On June 24, 1947, at St. Bernard's Church, Waterville, he married Mayselle Draheim. She passed away May 3, 1986. Mr. Tormey was a life long dairy farmer. He was a parishioner of St. Bernard's Church. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed gardening, bingo, and dining out for lunch at Joan's Cafe in Deansboro and Quack's Diner in Madison. John's favorite pastime was socializing with family and friends. His life was farming and his family, he always told how he loved all his "babies". He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Stanley Brightman of Morgantown, PA and Deborah and Scott Furner of Sauquoit; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Patricia and Chad Parsons and their son, Caleb of Lodi, Kathryn Furner and Laslo Jacobs of Spencerport, Bridgette and Robert Miller and their daughter, Hannah, who resided with him and made it possible for him to stay in his home in Sauquoit, and Jonathon, Andrew and Emily Brightman, all of Morgantown, PA; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by four brothers, James, Francis, Edwin, and William Tormey; and four sisters, Ella Marsh, Mary Schweitzer, Katherine McCormick, and Betty Truax. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 am at St. Bernard's Church, Waterville. Spring interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday afternoon from 1-4, at the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of Community Memorial Hospital, for all their wonderful care as well as all the devoted family and friends of John, who came to visit him or called to say "Hi".
