Obituary

John H. Vaughan, Jr., 73, of Main St., North Brookfield, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2008 at his home. He was born March 20, 1934, in Los Angeles, CA, the son of the late John H., Sr. and Margaret Descman Vaughan. He attended school in Los Angeles and was a graduate of California Polytechnic. Mr. Vaughan served with the US Army from 1954-1956. On June 12, 1956, in Upper Marlboro, MD, he married Jean M. Cross from North Brookfield. For many years, Mr. Vaughan was the Assistant Head Group Supervisor for the California Youth Authority in Paso Robles, CA, retiring in 1968. From 1971-1978, he and his wife owned and operated an ice cream and sandwich shop in Paso Robles. In 1979, the Vaughans moved to North Brookfield. John was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, whose life centered around his family. A spiritual man of many talents, he loved to do woodworking and was a charter member of the National Hot Rod Association. He also loved poetry and wrote "A View from the Hillside", a book of poems. He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Jean; five children and their spouses, Cheryl and Pat Wofford of Atascadero, CA, Sharon Vaughan of Cambria, CA, Susan and Shane Buchanan of Chadwicks, Karen and Chris Love of Utica and John, III and Francine Vaughan of Waterville; a brother, William Vaughan of Morro Bay, CA; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Private graveside services will be at the convenience of the family at North Brookfield Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, Waterville.
