Obituary

Mr. Joseph Maggi, Jr., 65, of New Hartford, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center, with his loving and devoted family by his bedside. He was born September 29, 1943, in Utica, the son of the late Joseph and Frances Scalzo Maggi. He was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School, class of 1961 and continued his education at the Utica School of Commerce in the computer science field. From 1962-1965, Joe served his country in the US Army, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant at the age of 18. On April 22, 1967, at St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro, Joe married his devoted and much loved wife, Kathleen (Timmy) Murphy. After 35 years of service, Joe retired as a postal carrier from the US Postal Service. He was most recently employed at Mohawk Limited as an inside salesman for the west coast. Joe's favorite pastime was spending time with his shining star, "the love of his life", his granddaughter, Alexis Kalil. He is survived by his loving wife, Timmy; his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Mike Flaherty; and his adored granddaughter, Alexis Kalil all of New Hartford; his two sisters, Grace Jennings of Utica and Philomena Lazzaro of Buelton, CA; his brother and sister-in-law, Angelo and Sharon Maggi of East Syracuse; his in-laws, Martin and Patricia Murphy of Owego, William Murphy and Frank Antonelli of Boston, MA, Patrick (Michael) and Leslie Murphy of RI and Patricia and Stephen DeRosa of Yorkville; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Russell and Joanne Schmitt and Byron and Rosemary Abraham, as well as many other friends, too numerous to mention. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and participate in his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10:30 am at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. John Rose officiating. Military honors will follow the Mass. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. There are no public calling hours. Joe's family will receive condolences at the conclusion of the Mass in the church vestibule. Joe's family extends a heartfelt thank you to nurse, Barbara Roberts at the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center and to nurse practitioner, Sally O'Callahan, for their wonderful care and compassion. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Rd., Utica/New Hartford.
