Obituary

Rev. Joseph Paul Timlin, 84, of Springfield Center and Waterville, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Faxton-St. Luke''s Healthcare Center, New Hartford. He was born September 30, 1925, in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Francis Edward Timlin and Pauline Amanda Hecker Timlin. Rev. Timlin entered the military on his 17th birthday, serving with the Seabee''s in the US Navy during WW II and saw action in Iwo Jimo, Majuro, the Marshall Islands and Marianas. Rev. Timlin received his Bachelor''s degree in Science from Dickinson College and worked as a Research Chemist and also worked on the A-Bomb. He later received his Master''s degree in Divinity from Colgate-Rochester-Crozer Divinity School and served 64 years as an Ordained Elder in three conferences, Western PA, Wyoming and North Central NY. He also taught Field Archeology at Dickinson College and Hartwick College and authored a field handbook on Native American Archeology. On July 3, 1987, in Berkshire, NY, he married Rev. Genett E. Couch (Walker) Timlin. Rev. Timlin was proud to be part Munsee Native American. He had many interests in archeology, prehistory, history, paleontology, the art of jewelry making, old and rare coins, trains and the study of gems as well as artifacts made by early man. He also enjoyed teaching about Native American''s at Aldersgate Camp in the Adirondack''s and preaching the Word. He was a member of the Whiteman Hull Snyder American Legion Post #1360 in Cherry Valley, the Otsego County Pomona Grange #16 and was a life member of Empire State Chapter #2 DAV. Rev. Timlin is survived by his wife, Rev. Genett E. Timlin; two sons, Stephen P. (Jennifer) Timlin of Williamsport, PA and James F. (Linda) Timlin of San Diego, CA; two step children, James Walker of Bridgeport, CT and Jerilyn (Tony) Latiolais of Henderson, LA; two sisters, Kathleen (Jim) Farr of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Pauline Timlin Siple and her husband, Jonathan Nowick of Bethesda, MD ; his mother-in-law, Eloise Couch of Marathon, NY; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Danial) Vasile of Tampa, FL, Summer (Phillip) Johnson of Williamsport, PA, Adam Timlin and Jason Timlin, both of San Diego, CA; two step grandchildren, Tonya (Donnie) Reed and Danielle (Trent) Thibodeaux, all of Henderson, LA; two great-grandchildren, Dorian Vasile and Elijah Johnson; three step great-grandchildren, Rylan Calais, Blake Calais and Taegan Jade Thibodeaux; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Francis Edward Timlin, Jr. and John David Timlin, Sr. His celebration of Life will be held Saturday afternoon at 3 o''clock at the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville, NY with Rev. Richard Barton officiating. Interment will be in Windsor Village Cemetery, Windsor, NY at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Saturday from 1:30-3:00 pm at the funeral home, prior to the service.
