Joseph A. Tomaino, 97, of Utica, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center. He was born December 31, 1915, in Utica, the son of the late Saverio and Sophie Maksinski Tomaino and was a graduate of UFA. On November 25, 1937, at St. Stanislaus Church, Utica, he married Ida A. Zebrowski. She passed away November 21, 1998. For 35 years, Mr. Tomaino was a machinist with J.A. Firsching & Sons in Utica, retiring in 1977. He is survied by three children, Sandra (Harold) Dowell of Whitesboro, Bernice Marconi of North Utica and Joseph, Jr. (Lee) Tomaino of Concord, NH; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Tomaino of Sterling, CO; nine grandchildren, Laurie, Valarie, Felicia, Jeffrey, Stephanie, Amy, Alicia, Marc and Stacey; seven great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Logaan, Taylor, Alexia, Fiona, Sabrina and Julian; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Joyce Hadity; two brothers, Peter (Agnes) Tomaino and John Tomaino; and his faithful canine companion Max. The family wishes to thank the staff of Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center-Clark North for their tender and loving care of Joseph, in his final days. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 am from Historic Old St. John's Church, Downtown Utica. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the guidence of the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., Utica/New Hartford.
