On Sunday, July 23, 2017, Laura Gryska Gallant was unexpectedly called home to be with her Lord and Savior. Laura was the second of four children born to Mark and Sophie Gryska in Meshoppen, PA, on December 11, 1952. She was a sensitive, thoughtful, and studious child who loved to learn. These were characteristics she shared with all who encountered her. Although she excelled as one of the first women in her Computer Science studies at the Rochester Institute of Technology, she also had a soulful connection to the arts. Laura met her lifelong love, Doug Gallant, in 1975, and they later married in 1982. Laura and Doug's love for each other was beautiful to behold. They bonded over a deep appreciation of music, which remained a source of happiness for them through the decades. The flame of love between them only grew brighter with the unconditional affection she showered on their children Heather Rose (born 1984) and Aaron Michael (born 1988). Her daughter and son were the absolute pride and joy of her life. She was a loving, compassionate, patient, generous, and gentle person who accepted all of God's creation with an open heart. Laura was a devoted Catholic and her faith in Jesus gave her great strength and comfort. She had a profound respect for all faiths, and she walked humbly with God throughout her life. She attended daily masses and prayer meetings at many churches in the Rochester area, including Our Lady Queen of Peace, and she regularly worshipped with Doug at Shabbat services at Temple B'rith Kodesh. Laura cherished life, and without fail, she provided support to all of her friends and family, especially her parents. She led a remarkable life filled with joyous experiences: travelling the world, witnessing her son receive his Master's degree from the University of Glasgow in Scotland, and most recently, helping her daughter plan her wedding. She reveled in their successes and embraced their accomplishments. There will remain a hole in the hearts and lives of those who knew and loved Laura including her husband, Douglas Gallant of Brighton; daughter Heather (Ben Patterson) of Rochester; son Aaron of Rochester; her loving mother, Sophie Gryska of New Hartford; her best friend and big sister, Marcia Corsi of New Hartford; brother Mark (Ellen Hirschberg) Gryska of Northampton, MA; brother Carl (Gerardo Regalado) Gryska of Los Angeles, CA; nieces and nephews and their children, whom she loved so much. Laura is predeceased by her father Mark Gryska, who amongst other things, instilled in her a love of gardening, as well as her mother- & father-in-law, Phyllis and Gerald Gallant, who taught her to cook a mean brisket and appreciate a bad joke, respectively. Laura's family has been sustained during this difficult time by the generosity and support of all of their loved ones. Her family would especially like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at Strong Memorial Hospital who selflessly cared for Laura at the end of her life. A memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 28th at 9:30am at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church (601 Edgewood Ave, Rochester, NY 14618), followed by a Shiva service at Temple B'rith Kodesh (2131 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, NY 14618) 1:00pm-3:00pm. In lieu of flowers and other gifts, Laura's family respectfully request that donations be made to the Catholic Family Center, which does incredible work supporting individuals and families in need in the Rochester area. Arrangements are with the Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., New Hartford, NY
