Laura L. Giacona, 95, of North Utica, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the Katherine Luther Residential Care Center. She was born September 6, 1923, in Utica, the daughter of the late Dominick and Josephine Borgia. She was a graduate of Utica schools and attended the Utica School of Commerce. For many years she was a Supervisor in the Radio Receiver Department at General Electric. After her retirement, she worked for the Oneida County Board of Elections. She was a former parishioner of St. Peter's Church. Laura was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed making crafts, painting and knitting. She is survived by four children, Elaine Joseph of Ohio, JoAnn Giacona of Utica, Gloria Schremmer of Utica and David Giacona, Sr. of Oriskany Falls; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, especially Sammy Nassimos of Utica; and her dear friend, Josephine Lape. She was predeceased by her husband, John Giacona, Sr. in 1978; two sons, John Giacona, Jr. and Joe Giacona; two grandsons, Dominick Giacona and Joe Giacona, Jr.; five sisters; two brothers; and her companion of many years, Harry Kahler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, December 12 at 10 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., New Hartford.
