Obituary

Leon Idzi, 88, of Barker Rd., passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009, at his home. He was born February 1, 1921, in Clark Mills, the son of the late Phillip and Magdalene Kurgan Idzi and received his education in a one room school house in Solsville. On February 7, 1942, in Madison, he married Hilda Waterman. She passed away January 27, 1995. Mr. Idzi was a Corporal with the US Army-Air Core during WW II. For many years, Mr. Idzi was a self employed dairy farmer in Oriskany Falls and also retired from Eastern Rock Products in Oriskany Falls. He was a member of the Oriskany Falls United Methodist Church, the Kelley-Phillips American Legion Post #569, ILUNA and Cooperative Extension. Leon was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a soft spoken and easy going man who loved flower and vegetable gardening. His vegetables were admired far and near and he received great joy in giving them away. He is survived by four children and their spouses, Ronald and Eva Idzi of Oriskany Falls, Doris and William Brown, Sr. of Waterville, Terry and Iola Idzi of Waterville and Jayne and Brian Day, Sr. of Oriskany Falls; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Waterman of Oriskany Falls; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was recently reacquainted with his wartime buddy, Roy Ilminen of Hurley, WI, where he enjoyed catching up and writing letters to each other. Leon was predeceased by two brothers. The funeral will be Monday at 10 am at the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville, with Pastor Jay Williams officiating. Interment will be in Madison Village Cemetery. Calling hours are Saturday (tonight) 5-7.
