Margaret M. "Deet" Casey, 78, of Utica, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 at The Pines at Utica, with her family by her side. She was born May 18, 1935, in Ilion, the daughter of the late Ralph and Lilian Giles Stanbrook. She was a graduate of UFA and the Utica School of Commerce. On July 19, 1958, at Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica, she married Austin J. "Toots" Casey. For many years she worked at General Electric. She later owned the New Hartford Pet Center, retiring in 1992. Deet loved her family, especially her grandchildren and enjoyed going to garage sales and going out for coffee with Toots. She was a member of the Go Getters Swim Club at Faxton Hospital and was an avid Mets fan and collector of M & M's collectibles. Deet also enjoyed crocheting. She is survived by her husband, Toots; a daughter, Karen Casey of Utica; a son, Arthur Casey of Utica, a special son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Pearl Stanbrook of Wilkes Barre, PA; two sisters, Jean Lewandrowski of New York Mills and Janet Chambrone of San Diego, CA; a brother, Thomas Stanbrook of Utica; three grandchildren, Brittany, Brian and Brandon Casey; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Dennis Patrick Casey; and a brother, Richard Stanbrook. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 am at the Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Road, Utica/New Hartford, with Pastor Ed Townsend officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
