Myron M. (Mike) Matteson, 73, of Sangerhill Rd., Waterville, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2010, with his loving family by his side, at Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton, due to complications of ALS. He was born October 7, 1936, in Utica, the son of Bessie H. Shaw Matteson and the late Myron M. Matteson, Sr., and was a graduate of Sauquoit Central School. Mike was a member of the 105th Military Police with the US National Guard from 1958-1962. In 1961, the 105th Military Police were activated for the Cuban Crisis to Ft. Benning, GA, where Mike received the "Soldiers Award Medal" for saving many lives from a fire in the main mess. On. May 7, 1960, at St. Bernard''s Church, Waterville, he married Joan E. Barrett. For 36 years, Mr. Matteson was the contractor coordinator at Wickes Lumber in Sangerfield, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Waterville Fish & Game Club. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Joan; his mother, Bessie of Madison; five children and their spouses, Kathryn and Alan Musselman of Idaho Falls, ID, Lori Hinman and her fiancé Chris Langdon of Vernon Center, Susan Matteson-Eld and Garth Eld of Seattle, WA, Michael Scott Matteson of Waterville and Bridget and Ronald VanPelt of New Berlin; five grandchildren, Michael Olsen, Nicole Hinman, Alexander Musselman, Jeremy VanPelt and Kayla VanPelt; four sisters, June Pike, Sharon Peek, Linda Kilbourne and Terry Rizzo; three brothers, Robert Matteson, James Matteson and Gregory Matteson; and several; nieces and nephews. Per Mike''s wishes, services will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, Waterville.
