Obituary

Nicholas F. (Nick) Marchitelli, 56, of Chirttenango, a former Utica resident, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, after a one year battle with cancer. He was born July 6, 1956, in Utica, the son of the late Nicholas and Mary Grace Abiusi Marchitelli. He was a graduate of T. R. Proctor High School and received an associates degree in Radio Communication from MVCC. On May 12, 1989, Nick married the former Janis Manella in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Utica, a blessed union of 23 years. He was employed by the Federal Government as an Information System Specialist for 34 years for the US Air Force. Nick proudly served his country as a seaman in the US Navy. He was a ham radio operator-general class and his call letters were KA2HSM and he was a member of a ham radio club. Nick loved his 1970 Buick Stage 1, his ham radio, his Giants football team, but most of all he loved spending time with his two sons. Nick is survived by his beloved wife Janis; two sons, Christopher Nicholas and Nicholas John, both at home; his brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Rosalie Marchitelli of Herkimer; his mother-in-law, Carmella Manella of Utica; his in-laws, Sylvia ( Penny ) Marchitelli of New Hartford, Patricia and Wayne Currier of Utica, Frank and Donna Manella of Herkimer and John and Chris Manella of Atlanta, GA; a special aunt and uncle, Richard and Gerri Ziezio of Verona Beach, FL; and a special nephew, Richard S. Marchitelli, his wife Lisa and their children. He was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Robert Marchitelli. Family and friends are invited to attend Nick's calling hours on Saturday from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville. His Mass of Christian Burial, with military honors will follow at 2 PM. Private interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Utica. Nick's family is very grateful to the doctors and staff of both Sloan Kettering and Crouse Irving Hospitals and to the Fayetteville Paramedics. Arrangements are under the guidance of the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Road, Utica/New Hartford.
