Norah M. Costello, 90, formerly of Madison and Waterville, passed away Friday, February 25, 2011 at the Community Memorial Hospital Extended Care Facility in Hamilton. She was born May 19, 1920, in North Bangor, NY, the daughter of the late Patrick Henry and Mary Grace LaBelle McCarthy. She received her education in Oakland, CA and North Bangor and Malone, NY. On June 15, 1948, in Syracuse, she married Leonard J. Costello, He passed away September 15, 1962. Mrs. Costello was the secretary of the Physical Plant at Colgate University in Hamilton, retiring in 1982. Mrs. Costello was a member of the Fireman's Auxiliary of New York State, Central State and the Waterville Fire Department and was a member and Past President of the Madison County Fireman's Auxiliary and the Madison Fire Department Auxiliary. She was also a Past President of the Madison Central School PTA and a Past Treasurer of the Waterville Food Pantry. Mrs. Costello's memberships also included the Waterville Senior Citizens as well as many other volunteer organizations throughout the area. She was a parishioner of St. Bernard's Church, Waterville and was formerly an active member of the Altar Rosary Society of St. Mary's Church, Hamilton. She is survived by a daughter, Leonora of CA; two sons, Ronald of SC and Leonard, II of Batavia, NY; two sisters, Alice Queffelec of NJ and Margaret McCarthy of Malone, NY; one brother, Patrick McCarthy of Oswego, NY; six grandchildren, Randy, Rhonda, Douglas, Daniel, Sean and Cody; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Ruth Chapin, Mary Henderson and Patricia Sullivan. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family in St. Augustine's Cemetery, North Bangor, NY. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, Waterville.
