IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norma (Samuels)
Greenberg
October 9, 1929 – February 4, 2026
Norma Greenberg, 96, of Rome, NY passed away on February 4, 2026 at Rome Health Hospital with family at her side.
She was born in Ilion, NY in 1929 to Isadore and Lena Samuels. After graduating high school, she married Samuel "Fred" Greenberg, a veteran of WWII's Pacific Campaign. Making a home in Utica, NY, they soon welcomed children and briefly moved to Miami, FL before returning to Utica and eventually settling in Rome.
Norma worked part-time as a bookkeeper but transitioned to the role of homemaker to care for her children; later she worked part-time at Rome Voluntary Action Center. She often volunteered at Bethany House Nursing Home in Rome, leading the residents in song and socialization. Active in the Jewish community and a longtime member of Adas Israel Synagogue in Rome, Norma participated in the congregation's Sisterhood and ran the gift shop for many years.
Norma enjoyed entertaining friends and family with Freddy, playing cards and Trivial Pursuit late into the evening after summertime backyard barbecues. Her hobbies included the piano, singing, mahjong, knitting, crocheting; when Fred passed in 1995, she purchased a computer and quickly made lasting friendships across the globe in online communities centered around her interests. The computer fascinated her, keeping her connected with distant family over Zoom and allowing her to reminisce via YouTube of the Big Bands that she and Freddy enjoyed. Nothing delighted her more than family and keeping everyone connected: sharing memories of Freddy, her close relationships with her children, and interacting with her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by son, Mark Greenberg of Canastota, NY; and daughter, Jamie (John) Feldman of Rome; grandchildren, Jared (Kelly) Feldman of Rome, Jason Feldman of Rivervale, NJ, and Josh (Jacquie) Feldman of Seneca, SC; and great-grandchildren, Liat, Aaron, Levi, and Mila. Special family includes sister-in-law, Bobbie (Donnie) Mendleson of Boca Raton, FL; niece, Denise (Bruce) Tredwell of Brewster, NY and niece, Leslie Greenberg of Tuscon, AZ; great-niece, Sarah Tredwell (fiancee Alberto) of Poughkeepsie, NY; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, brothers, Harvey, Jules (Sivie), and Jack Samuels, and brother-in-law, Bill (Anita) Greenberg.
The family is grateful for Norma's many neighbors who so kindly cared for and befriended her over the decades, and the staff of Rome Hospital for their care and compassion.
Arrangements are being coordinated by Mark C. Bentz Funeral Service, Inc. of New Hartford, NY. A graveside service will be held Sunday, February 8 at 11AM at House of Israel cemetery, Wood Road in Whitesboro, NY; the family will be sitting shiva and greeting visitors afterwards from 3-7PM at Norma's residence in Rome.
In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to your favorite charity.
