Pauline Sumberg, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 9, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Utica, daughter of the late Theodore and Belle Bluman Stone and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On May 20, 1956, at the House of Jacob Synagogue in Utica, she was united in marriage to her beloved, Lawrence "Larry" Sumberg, a loving union of 49 years. Larry passed away on December 18, 2004. Pauline was employed by Marine Midland Bank and later by the Utica City School District as a Teacher's Assistant. A founding member of Congregation Zvi Jacob, she was President of its Sisterhood in addition to being on countless committees. She loved being in the kitchen with her friends preparing food for the many functions and events that were held in the Synagogue. Pauline was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, whose life revolved around her family, friends and City of Utica. She was dedicated to Jewish tradition and was a pillar of its community. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Jill Sumberg of New Hartford; a daughter and son-in-law, Rochelle and RJ Hevier of Winter Garden, FL; six grandchildren, whom were her pride and joy, Jacob, Kayla and Jenna Sumberg and Alex, Sydney and Julia Hevier; a sister-in-law, Loretta Skoletsky of Pittsfield, MA; one niece and three nephews, Larry, Janice, Louis and Barry; and very special friends, Linda Lasher and Lori Rosoff. Pauline was predeceased by her in-laws, Rose and Harold Schecter and Edward Skoletsky. The funeral will be Sunday at 11 am at Congregation Zvi Jacob, 110 Memorial Parkway, Utica, with Rabbi Howard Matasar officiating. Interment will be in House of Jacob Cemetery, Whitesboro. Shiva will be observed Sunday and Monday from 5-8 pm at the home of Brian and Jill Sumberg, 30 Deerpath Drive, New Hartford.
