Philip Schaeffer, 89, of New Hartford, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016. He was born October 26, 1927, in Brooklyn, the son of the late Samuel and Pauline Weber Schaeffer. He received his education in Brooklyn and attended NYU. Phil was a US Army veteran of WW II serving as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. On December 17, 1949, he married Gloria H. Kover. For many years, Mr. Schaeffer was a sales representative for Hart, Schaffner & Marx. He was a member of Temple Emanu-El, New Hartford American Legion Post #1376, Moriah Lodge #958 F & AM, the Scottish Rite and Ziyara Temple, where he served as Recorder for 12 years. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gloria; three children and their spouses, Paula and Rod Sawyer of Denver, CO, Steven and Michelle Schaeffer of New Hartford, NY and Linda and Stu Gewirtz of Melville, NY; a sister, Sandra Jaffee of East Meadow, NY; a brother-in-law, Jonas Kover of New Hartford, NY; and five grandchildren, David, Beth, Sarah, Elizabeth and Samuel. The funeral will be Friday (today) at 2 pm at Temple Emanu-El, 2710 Genesee Street, Utica with Rabbi Cassi Kail officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1:30-2, prior to the service. Interment will be in Temple Emanu-El Cemetery. Shiva will be observed on Sunday and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Schaeffer home, 26 Foxcroft Road, New Hartford.
