Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond A. Humann, who died on 6/2/26 (a date he would have loved as a palindrome was a favorite of his) at the age of 79. Raymond was born on 11/12/1946 in Utica, NY to Raymond E. and Jane O. Humann.

Raymond was known for his quick wit, playful antics, storytelling (some true and some not so true), patience, mentoring, gentleness, exceptional kindness, loyalty and love of family and friends. He was an exceptional loving and supportive father to his sons, Ray and Ben and a loyal, supportive and loving husband to his wife, Jane.

Throughout his life, Raymond held several jobs, most notably at Grand Union, then at the family- owned Worden’s Music Store and finally retiring from U.S. Materials Handling Inc. Raymond attended Colgate University, as did his father, and continued to Utica College of Syracuse University, earning a BA in English.

Raymond enjoyed playing golf and watching all sports. He was a die- hard NY Giants fan, SU fan and although a NY/SF Giants fan he would root for the Yankees out of love for his sons, mother, brother, sister, and niece. In his younger days, he also played football and hockey and enjoyed handicapping horse races and an “occasional” jaunt to Las Vegas.

Raymond is survived by Jane, his beloved wife of almost 54 years, his son, Raymond S Humann who moved back home from Las Vegas to help take care of him these last 6 years, his son, Benjamin M. Humann, Waterville, OH, who made the trip home so often to see his Dad, it was almost a commute for him, his sister, Jill Polizzi, Utica, NY, brother, Daniel Humann, Clinton NY, sisters-in-law, Deborah Shapiro and Debi Olcese, Palm Desert, CA, niece, Lauren Polizzi and Brian Coupe New Hartford, NY, nephews, Jordan and his wife Nancy Polizzi, Clayville, NY, Daniel Humann, Thornton CO, and Lucas Humann, Hadley, MA, several cousins and so very many friends.

Raymond will be missed by so many. He truly touched everyone he met and really was the poster child for “Everyone Loves Raymond”.

He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond E. and Jane O. Humann, sister-in-law, Shirley Humann and brother-in-law, Ronald Polizzi.

The family wishes to extend their thanks to the Upstate Cancer Center, especially Dr. Ramovic, Dr. Schicker, and Laura Senska, Dr. D. Welchons, VNA, Nascentia, and Hospice & Palliative Care and the Sylvan Beach Fire Dept.

In remembrance of Raymond, kindly consider donations to Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY, Sylvan Beach Fire Department, 908 Main St, Sylvan Beach, NY 13157, or American Cancer Society PO Box 6704, Hagerstown MD 21741.

Services will be at noon on Monday, 6/8/26 at Temple Emanu-El, 2710 Genesee St, Utica, NY. The family will greet guests at the Temple following the service. Visitation will be at the family home at 7309 Lakeshore Drive, Blossvale, NY on Monday 4-7 pm and Tuesday 3-6 pm. Arrangements are with Mark C. Bentz Funeral Service Inc., 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford, NY.
