Obituary

Rhelda Myrtle Gray Lapham, 93, a resident of Waterville for many years, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at the Harding Nursing Home. She was born March 22, 1916, in Old Forge, PA, the daughter of the late James William and Myrtle Robinson Gray. The family relocated to Chadwicks in 1922. She was a graduate of Chadwicks High School in 1933 and spent one year as a post graduate at Sauquoit Central School. On June 20, 1940, in the Willowvale Methodist Church, she married Granville L. Lapham, a loving union of 58 years. He passed away June 27, 1998. Mrs. Lapham was employed for 24 years with the Waterville Knitting Mill. She was later employed for 24 years in the office of the Partlow Corporation in New Hartford. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Waterville and was an avid bowler. Rhelda is survived by several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Gray of Ridgewood, NJ. She was predeceased by five sisters, Iva Smith, Ruth Cowburn, Lena Edwards, Verna Welty and Irma Burbach; and four brothers, Robert, Earl, Kenneth and Roy, who died at the age of 5. The funeral will be Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville, with Pastor Genett Timlin officiating. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Kirkland. A calling hour will be held from 12-1, prior to the service.
