Richard A.(Dick) Welsh, 61, of Hubbardsville, passed away unexpectedly on Monday March 3, 2008 at Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton. He was born May 19, 1946, in Utica, the son of the late Charles and Katherine Buell Welsh and was educated in Waterville schools. Dick was an MP with the US Army during Vietnam. At one time, Mr. Welsh was married to the former Carolyn Weaver. For over 30 years, Dick was a track foreman with Conrail-CSX, retiring in 2006. He was a member of Southgate Ministries, the Kelley-Phillips American Legion Post #569, a member and union representative of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees/Teamsters and for years sponsored two children through the Latin America Child Care. Dick was a loving, kind and generous person. He was also a devoted father, grandfather and brother and will be deeply missed. He is survived by two daughters, Tammy Falin of Deansboro and Bridgett Welsh of Hubbardsville; five grandchildren, Ryan, Brandon, Christopher, Olivia and Michael; three brothers, William (Sarah) Welsh of Clinton, Gene (Sally) Sinardo of Waterville and Glenn (Lenora) Welsh of Burlington, NC; eight sisters, Kathy(John) Paino of Waterville, Judy (Tony) Strong of Knoxboro, Donna Melvin of Port Orange, FL, Karen Burnett of Whitesboro, Patricia Strong of Knoxboro, Barbara (L.D.) Crumb of Earlville, Lauri (Mike) Welsh of Port Orange, FL and Cindy (Richard) Dingannte of Katy, TX; a special buddy, Tom Brady of Waterville; and many nieces and nephews. Dick was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Howard Welsh; and a sister, Linda Godfrey. The funeral will be Saturday at 10 am at Southgate Ministries, Main St., Waterville, with Pastor Doug Cowburn officiating. Interment will be in Waterville Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday 2-4 and 6-8 at the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville. Members of the Kelley-Phillips Post will meet at the funeral home, Friday evening at 6:30.
