Richard A. "Sonny" Olmstead, 82, died April 1, 2023. Born May 3, 1940 to Donald and Josephine Olmstead. He graduated from Oriskany Falls High School in 1957, joined the Navy and served until 1961. In 1961 he married Helen Cotter and shared 61 years together. He retired as a rural mail carrier of the US Postal Service in 2000.

Sonny was an active member of the Waterville United Methodist Church, Cassidy Hollow Rod & Gun Club and was a Hunter Safety Instructor for 40 years. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and hunter.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Helen; son, Eric and wife Dawn; son, Todd; and daughter, Erin St. Germain. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mason and wife Krissy, and Emily and Caitlin. Sonny has two surviving siblings, Joseph and wife Rose, and Donald and wife Julie; and brother-in-law, Paul Holic. He was predeceased by his son, Brett; his parents; and his sister, Joyce.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 8 at 10:00 am at the Waterville United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family at St. Bernard's Cemetery.
