Obituary

Robert J. Schepisi of New Hartford, NY, passed away peacefully late Friday, September 27, 2024, at home with his family by his side after a battle with cancer.

Bob was born in Utica, NY on July 17, 1946, to Nicholas and Congetta Schepisi. He graduated from Thomas R. Proctor High School in Utica, NY in 1965, and studied Business at MVCC. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Navy; served on the USS Alfred E. Cunningham and USS Truxtun during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1969.  Bob retired from Niagara Mohawk in 2005, after 35 years as a power delivery mechanic. During his tenure, he acted as safetyman for his team.

Robert was a member of the Masons prior to his retirement. He served as Master Mason for several years. He was also a member of the NRA and was a highly respected arms instructor for many years. Bob was a member of the Ni Mo retiree club and served as president. He enjoyed various hobbies, including music, cooking and baking. His family will miss his delicious meals and treats especially his string cheese!  Bob loved spending time with people most of all. He was fiercely proud of his family, sharing stories about his wife, three children and their partners, and his grandson. Going for coffee with "the guys", former coworkers and fellow Veterans, was a highlight of his week.

Robert is survived by his "bride", Mary; and their three children, Elizabeth S. Fossum (Eric), John (Gabriel Rodriguez) and Michael (Sarah Pylinski); grandson, Andrew Robert Fossum; and his brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Sylvia Schepisi. Bob is also survived by in-laws; Michael Franz, Elizabeth Franz & Kevin Kehoe, Barbara Franz & Charles Assatly and John Franz & Charity Harbeck. Bob is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Karen & Kevin Maier, Kris & Shawn Dilg, Michele & Andrew Ritchie, Jeff & Sue Schepisi, Gregory Franz & Lawrence Long and Nicholas & Taylor Franz. Also surviving Bob are great nieces, nephews, dear cousins and many friends.

Calling hours will be Thursday, October 3rd from 2-4 PM at the Mark C. Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford, NY with a service at 4 PM. Interment will be held at a future date in Calvary Cemetery.

Robert loved dogs and they adored him. In memory of Bob and in lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to either Anita's Steven's Swan Humane Society  5664 Horatio Street, Utica, NY 13502 or Hospice & Palliative Care 4227 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413. The Schepisi family is deeply grateful to the Hospice caregivers for their care & support during this difficult time.
