Obituary

Roderick L. Fuess, 82, of New Hartford, formerly of Oriskany Falls, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Presbyterian Home for Central NY, with his loving family by his side. He was born August 19, 1927, in Waterville, the son of the late William and Eliza Gall Fuess. He was a graduate of Waterville Central School and Cornell University, Class of 1950. He married the love of his life, Elsie Ames on September 4, 1948, in the Oriskany Falls United Methodist Church, He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of almost 62 years, Elsie of New Hartford; and their three children, Roderick, Jr. and Deborah Fuess of Schaumburg, IL and their children, Eliza and Cameron, Gregory Fuess of San Antonio, TX and Janet Fuess of Clinton, NY, and their children, Shawn and Ryan, and Cynthia and Clifford Thompson, Jr. of Hebron, CT, and their children, Clifford, III and Alexandra. He treasured and is also survived by six great-grandchildren; and his brother and sister-in-law, Frederick and Dorothy Fuess of Annandale, NJ. He is predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Isabelle and Donald Urquhart; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Flora Fuess and Stuart and Evelyn Fuess. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. For 40 years, Mr. Fuess was employed with Eastern Rock Products in Oriskany Falls, retiring in 1989. He was an active member of the community serving as a member of the Oriskany Falls United Methodist Church and was Superintendant of its Sunday School, and served on the Oriskany Falls School Board and Hillside Cemetery Board. He was also a member of the Eastern Star Augusta Chapter and was an active member of Alliance Lodge #1097 F & AM for 58 Years. Rod was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying cross country skiing, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and canoeing. He loved traveling and seeing the world with Elsie by his side. He and his wife Elsie were beautiful ballroom dancers and were a joy to watch glide across the dance floor. They rivaled Fred and Ginger. But most of all he loved and treasured his family. A memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Emmaus Chapel at the Presbyterian Home for Central NY, 4290 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford. Arrangements are with the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, Waterville.
