Ruth Dresher Cohen, age 92, of Utica, passed away after a period of declining health on November 25, 2017. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Lena Slakter Dresher. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Edward Cohen; and her brother, Herbert Dresher of Riverhead, Long Island. Ruth is survived by her three children, Lawrence Cohen (Sriprapa) of Utica, Joyce Cohen Benson (Bruce) of Methuen, MA, and Howard Cohen (Leslie) of New Hartford; her cherished grandchildren, Scott Benson (Cait), Leigh Benson (Richard), and Evyn Cohen; and her great grandchild, Ellie Benson. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Ida Cohen of Utica, and Frances Dresher or Riverhead. Born and raised in Utica, Ruth was an active member of Temple Beth El, its Sisterhood, and was a lifetime member of Hadassah. She was also an active member of Congregation Zvi Jacob. Ruth was a proud holder of an amateur radio license with a call sign of KA2GEN and would nightly check in to the net with "no traffic". Everyone that knew Ruth knew of her love of animals, especially her 47 year old turtle, Poopsie. Her graveside service will be on Monday at 3 pm at Tifereth Zvi Cemetery, Wood Road, Whitesboro, with Cantor Kalman Socolof officiating. Shiva will be observed, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 12-2 pm and 4-6 pm at her home. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider Congregation Zvi Jacob in her memory.
