Obituary

Salvatore "Sal" Desimone, 96, of Utica, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare with his loving family by his side. He was born September 17, 1919, in Utica, the son of the late Tommaso and Maria Florenza DiSimone and was educated in Utica schools. Sal was a US Army veteran of WW II, serving in the European Theatre. On July 5, 1948, at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Utica, he married Pauline M. Paolozzi, a blessed union of 43 years, until her passing on June 13, 1991. For 30 years, he worked as an auto-body painter for Harry Heiman, Inc. in Utica. He later was a truck driver for the NYSDOT, retiring in 1988. Mr. Desimone was a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, was a 50 year member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society and was a member of the I.A.M. Retiree Club and the North Utica Senior Citizens. He was also a former parishioner and usher at St. Agnes Church. Sal was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas J. and Ruth Desimone of Clayton; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Anne and James Corleto of New Hartford; four grandchildren, Maria Desimone, Anthony and his wife, Jenna Desimone, Joseph and his wife, Jackie Corleto and Theresa Corleto; two great grandchildren, Kelsey and Everett Corleto; and several nieces and nephews, especially Thomas S. DeSimone and Joseph DeSimone. He was predeceased by two brothers, Simone "Sam" DeSimone and Fred J. DiSimone; and a sister, Anna Sciortino. The funeral will be Thursday at 10 am from the Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford and 11 am from St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7 pm.
