Sarah Buckley Schachtler, 76, of Waterville, passed away Friday, February 6, 2009, at the Presbyterian Home for CNY, with her family by her side. She was born January 22, 1933, in Utica, the daughter of the late Edward and Rose Etta Cunning Buckley and was a graduate of Clinton Central School. On November 8, 1952, at St. Mary's Church, Clinton, she married Peter Schachtler. Sarah was employed as a dental assistant with Dr. Francis, taking a break to raise her children, She later returned to work with Dr. Mennard until her retirement in 1994. After her retirement, she became a full time caregiver to her husband Pete. He passed away August 13, 2006. Mrs. Schachtler was an active member of St. Bernard's Church and was also a member of the Central New York Parkinson's Support Group. Sarah was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She was everyone's friend and was truly an angel. She is survived by her five children, Mark and Deborah of Deansboro, Joanne Miller of Utica and Ross Miller of Oneida, Peter E. and Stephanie of Waterville, Hans and Michele of Waterville and Heidi and Kim Griffith of Waterville; a brother, Edward and Dorothy Buckley of Clinton; a sister, Rose Greene of Greene; 12 grandchildren, Caleb, Jacob, Ross, Patrick, Stephanie, Heather, Pete, Aaron, Brandon, Velvet, Jamie and Steven; six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Donna Drake Schachtler; four sisters, Eleanor, Elizabeth, Marge and Evelyn; and a brother, Jack. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 am at St. Bernard's Church, Waterville. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton. Calling hours are Monday evening, 5-8 at the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of the Presbyterian Home for CNY and Dr. Francis Chabot and his entire staff, for all their kindness, wonderful care and compassion shown to Sarah.
