Obituary

Sherry Ann Cooperman was born in Utica, New York on October 14,1951. She passed away on January 29, 2026 at The Abraham House in Rome, New York.

Predeceased by her parents, Harry and Evelyn Cooperman, she spent most of her life in Utica.  She was a graduate of Utica Free Academy, was salutatorian of her graduating class at Utica College and received her Master's Degree in Library Science from McGill University in Montreal. Her career ranged from positions at Syracuse University, General Electric, St. Louis University and retired from the Utica City School District. She was a proud member of Temple Beth El and associate member of Zvi Jacob.

Sherry was truly a Renaissance woman: a lover of art, music, books and all things beautiful. She thoroughly enjoyed the concerts at Utica University and would attend whenever she could. Sherry was a passionate sports fan of ice skating, hockey, swimming events, college basketball and a huge Mets fan for baseball.  She loved the winter and summer Olympic competitions. Sherry was an extremely generous person, giving to more charities than could be listed. She was faithfully working on our family tree and researching carefully to finish it.

She leaves behind her sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Edward Larkin of Ft. Pierce, Florida; her nephew, Jeffrey Larkin and his wife Kristy of Rochester, New York; and her niece, Heather Shireman and her husband Justin, with their children Layla and Zachary of Phelps, New York. In addition, she leaves many, many friends, cousins, neighbors, co-workers and staff of her apartment building, who have all supported her in every way. She will be truly missed by everyone.

Thank you to the staff of Wynn Hospital and The Abraham House for their care, kindness and compassion.

There will be a graveside service for her at Tifereth Zvi Cemetery on Wood Road, Whitesboro on Sunday, February 1 at 11:00 am. Anyone wishing to donate in her memory, please consider The Abraham House of Utica/Rome, 1203 Kemble Street. Utica, NY 13501.
