Walter K. Mintel, Jr., 79, of Deerfield, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. He was born January 24, 1934, in Syracuse, the son of the late Walter K. and Helen (Gay) Mintel and was educated in Syracuse schools. He owned and operated Caution Equipment Co. in Sangerfield until it was sold. He later worked for a short period at FIS in Oriskany, until his health became prohibitive. Walter enjoyed working on his land and fishing when he could get the chance. At one time he was married to Isabelle Lanphere with whom he had four children, Walter K. (Stephanie) Mintel of FL, Jodel Mintel of Astoria, Guy A. (Penny) Mintel of Madison and Michelle (Alan) Visitacion of NJ. In 1975, he married JoAnne E. Rapavi and leaves a stepdaughter, Nicole' (Todd) Spalding of NJ; grandchildren, Frank Eckrich, April, Heather and Sharon Mintel, Marne' and Sophia Spalding and Rachel and Matt Visitacion; seven great grandchildren; and a special cousin, Tim (Anne) Etter of DeRuyter. Per his wishes there will be no services or visitation. Arrangements are under the guidance of the Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., Utica/New Hartford.
