Obituary

William (Ben) Adams, 60, of Valley View Rd., Clinton, died suddenly on Thursday, May 20, 2010 in Rome Hospital, with his family by his side. He was born August 17, 1949, in Charleston, WV, the son of the late Rev. Dr. Thomas Conley Adams and Genevieve Hart Adams of Barneveld. He was a graduate of UFA and attended MVCC. Ben was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Presently, Ben was employed at Lowe's in New Hartford as a kitchen and bath designer. He had also worked at Jay-K Cabinets and Home Depot in the same capacity. Prior to this, Ben managed the General Nutrition Center at Riverside Mall. Ben was an avid gardener and a skilled craftsman. He also enjoyed the company of his Keeshond dogs, Gypsy, Nikki and Tequila. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by Patricia Mettelman, with whom he shared a loving relationship of 34 years. He also leaves a sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Gabriele Garofalo of Rome; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Richard and Barbara Adams of Remsen, Jack and Dee Adams of Chesapeake, VA, Wesley and Kay Adams of Richmond, KY and Thomas Adams of Lacey, WA; a brother-in-law, Joseph Smucz of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews, whom he was very fond of. He was predeceased by two sisters, Beverly Van Dyke and Frances Smucz; and a sister-in-law, Polly Adams. Relatives and friends may call Monday evening from 5-7 at the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Rd., Utica/New Hartford. Funeral services will be held at the conclusion of visitation, with Lay Reader Susan Garofalo officiating. Interment will be Tuesday at the convenience of the family in Evergreen Cemetery, Barneveld.
