William Alan Brownjohn, of Hamilton, NY, died Thursday April 17, 2008 at home. Bill was a retired General Counsel and Corporate Secretary to The Chinet Company, now part of Huhtamaki Packaging worldwide. He moved to the Hamilton area from Barrington, RI in July 2000 and officially retired on Febraury 1, 2001. Prior to living in Barrington, Bill and his wife, Stacia, who survives him, lived for 16 years in Ridgefield, CT and for 21 years lived in New York City. Born in Buffalo, NY in 1933, he graduated from Kenmore Senior High School in June 1949 at the age of 16 and immediately attended the University of Buffalo, where he played football for his freshman and sophomore years. He was initiated in Theta Chi National Fraternity in 1951 and left the university at the end of his junior year to marry his wife of 55 years, Stacia Irene Zdyb from Depew, NY. In 1953, he was drafted into the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was discharged in 1955. At that time he returned to school on the GI Bill and completed his senior year, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in June of 1956. Bill attended law school at the University of Buffalo School of Law while working full time for the Aluminum Company of America in Buffalo, NY as a non-destructive x-ray technician in the company's magnesium foundry. When Alcoa closed the foundry in 1957, Bill was hired by American Airlines at the Buffalo Airport as a Fleet Service Clerk, loading and unloading airplanes on the afternoon shift. In June 1953, Bill graduated with his Juris Doctorate from U.B. He was interviewed and accepted as an internal canidate in American Airline's management training program and spent 7 months on assignment in New York City, Washington, DC and Tulsa, OK, before being assigned as a Labor Relations Specialist for the 3 New York City area airports. He was subsequently promoted to Senior Labor Relations Representative in the corporate office in New York City, where he had responsibility for the labor relations activities for half of the entire American Airlines airport and city locations in the United States. Subsequently, in 1964, he became Assistant Lobor Counsel for Olin Corporation in New York City. After 2 years' experiance with Olin he accepted the opportunity to be the first corporate Labor Relations Director of the Pepsi-Cola Company in 1966, located in New York City. Bill spent the next 14 years with PepsiCo, seeing it grow from a 850 million dollar company to a huge conglomerate of over 10 billion dollars. In 1980 he was offered the opportunity to work with The Chinet Company and develope the corporate labor and general council functions. He was a member of both the New York State Bar Association and the National Bar Association and the Waterville, ME Post #14 of the American Legion, until he moved to Hamilton when he transferred to the Kelley-Philips American Legion Post #569 in Oriskany Falls, NY. He is survived by his wife, Stacia; 3 children, Edward Alan Brownhjohn (Kathleen) of Syracuse, NY, Cynthia Brownjohn Stewart of Syracuse, NY and Christopher Brownjohn (Marilyn) of Bethel, CT; 5 grandchildren, Matthew and Brian Stewart of Oneida, NY, Andrew Brownjohn of Syracuse, NY and twins, Edward and Elizabeth Brownjohn of Bethel, CT; and a sister, Rosemary Lewis of Oriskany Falls, NY. In keeping with his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no special services held. . Arrangements are with the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, Waterville.
