William F. "Bill" Craig, 91, of Colonial Drive, New Hartford, passed away Monday, February 3, 2014 at the Presbyterian Home for Central NY. He was born May 11, 1922, in Watertown, the son of the late Francis and Bernadine Mullen Craig. He was a graduate of UFA in Utica and Rider University in NJ. Mr. Craig was a US Navy veteran of WW II, serving in the Pacific Theatre. On August 23, 1947, at Sacred Heart Church, Utica, he married Gertrude Daniels. At one time, Bill worked at Oneida National Bank. He later worked for many years at Utica Mutual Insurance, retiring in 1986. A devout Catholic, he was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church and was a member of the Holy Name Society. Bill was a member and avid golfer at the Skenandoa Golf Club and was a supporter of the Utica Heart Run & Walk. One of his favorite pastimes was vacationing with family at White Lake. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gertrude; two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan C. Orr of Laguna Woods, CA and Barbara M. and Dennis Wong of Westport, CT; a granddaughter, Malia Wong of New York City; two nieces, Carol Cisco and family of New York City and Nancy Coleman of Frederick, MD; and a nephew, Thomas (Tucker) Craig and family of Norwood, MA. He was predeceased by a brother, John Craig; two nieces, Shelley Craig and Kathy Eichenlaub; and a nephew, Michael Craig. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 am at St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford. Calling hours will be Friday from 4-7 pm at the Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Road, Utica/New Hartford.
